Our Story

Ever since I was a child, my trips to the motherland have always been carefree. We would visit family, take trips all over India, and best of all, eat the most stunning and tasteful food you can ever find. However, as my age and annual trips to India progressed, I realized a magnitude of problems occurring in India. The poor of India face so many challenges in life, TB is one such menace. While the Indian government and a host of NGOs do a lot to fight TB, the sheer scale of the issue and the population makes it a difficult battle. So I thought an extra soldier like myself can only help!

Specifically during my 2016 trip, I realized a growing pattern with the people of my village. Coughing with a regurgitation of mucus may seem like common cold symptoms, however, with India being one of the worst countries with air pollution I knew it was not that simple. While conducting my research I realized the problem: There were about 2.7 million cases of TB in India and 423,000 people died from TB during the year of 2016. Realising my great grandfather was one such victim, my urge to fight the disease grew. War room like discussions followed and we (my sister and I) decided that we want to act, we want to find a solution, and if our efforts can help only one person, cure TB and improve their life and life of their families it would be worth it, and it would give us immense satisfaction.

The cause was perfectly aligned with our passion for healthcare and presented a great opportunity to give something back to the community. Anima Foundation was born, its platform for us to raise awareness about the issue, gain support, raise funds and channel them towards the cure of TB in India, one person one village at a time.
